Fake It Until You Make It

There is a saying in the business world, “Fake it until you make it.” What this means is pretend until you feel like you’ve mastered something. So, if you are given a promotion and you feel out of your league; you are nervous or unsure, pretend you have confidence and that you know what you are doing. Everyone lacks complete confidence when trying something new or stepping into a new role. It is natural to be nervous. With enough repetition and learning you can master any task and soon you won’t have to fake it anymore.

I read a recent blog by Mama Gena on her School of Womanly Arts Website where she posed the question, “How would you be if you were beautiful?” Some women said they would only wear beautiful clothing.  One woman said she would be nicer to her husband. If they truly believed they were beautiful, they would behave differently than they do now.

So, I want to pose the question, “How would you be if you had your perfect, ideal body?” would you only dress yourself in flattering, alluring clothes?  Would you strut around naked in your room?  Would you wear that bikini you have always been too embarrassed to put on? How would you behave, think, and feel differently if you already had the perfect body?

Maybe you’d only eat the foods that you really enjoy. Maybe you would stride into every room with your head held high, your shoulders back and the knowledge that every eye is on you. I’d like you to really think about how your life would be different and write down everything that comes to mind.

Now look at your list and figure out what things you could do right now even without the ideal body. How could you fake it until you make it? Why can’t you only wear flattering clothes now? What stops you from strutting your gorgeous self around? You deserve to only eat foods that nourish you and bring you joy. Stop punishing yourself by waiting to do the things you really want. Be your ideal self now. Act as if you have the perfect body- treat yourself like royalty and I promise your body will respond.

I would love to hear some of the ways you would be if you had a perfect, fabulous, hot body. Leave me a comment and let’s dream and talk together.

  1. If I had the perfect body I would show off my six pack, flat, stomach as often as possible. I would only dress in cute exercise clothes, yoga pants and form fitting tanks. I’d love to try on clothes knowing everything was going to look good on me. I’d be bolder because I would be less worried about judgement from others and could focus on other things besides how I look.

    • Hi Fiona,
Thanks for getting the conversation started :) I love your comment of showing off your stomach as often as possible. If I had a six pack I’d do that too! What if you tried wearing the cute yoga pants now? They look good on everyone and when you are dressed well you feel better about yourself. Try it, you might be surprised by how it makes you feel.

  2. I would never be shy or self conscious. I’d stand taller and wear less clothes. I’d smile and talk to many more people. And finally I’d go to hollywood and become famous!

    • Hi Monica,
ha ha I can’t help you out with getting famous but I’d like to encourage you to smile and talk to people more starting right now. People always respond to a smile and a kind word regardless of how you look and the more positive interactions you have the less self conscious you will be. Thanks for your comment Monica, I appreciate you :)

  3. If I had the perfect body I would be so confident, I would love myself, I would hold my head so high and be so proud. I would laugh with so much joy and I would look people in the eyes when I talked to them. I would be nicer to people and say things to them to make them feel just as happy as I am feeling. I would lift them up on my wings and we would fly high and free.. sigh.. sounds wonderful..

    • hmm.. if I had the perfect body it would mean that I had forgiven myself and others..

      • Hi Leanna,
Thanks for sharing your dreams with me! It does sound wonderful doesn’t it? So freeing to feel confident and loving towards others, to be able to focus on lifting them up and making them feel great. I encourage you to try that with the next person you talk to. Just forget all about yourself, the way you look and any worries you may have about your body and just focus on making them feel fantastic. You will get so much joy out of the experience. Gift yourself with joy.
